Please read these terms carefully before using Cicada Ethos.

1. Research Disclosure

Cicada Ethos is a platform that facilitates the sharing of participant health data with verified research institutions. By using our services, you acknowledge that your de-identified health data may be used in academic and commercial research studies to which you have given explicit consent. Cicada Ethos does not conduct research directly; we provide the technology infrastructure that connects participants with researchers.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years of age to create an account and use Cicada Ethos. By registering, you represent and warrant that you meet this age requirement and that all information you provide is accurate and complete. Individual studies may impose additional eligibility criteria, which will be disclosed before enrollment.

3. Health Data

Cicada Ethos integrates with Apple HealthKit and other health data sources to collect metrics such as step count, heart rate, sleep analysis, and other health-related information. You control which data categories are shared and with which studies. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest and is de-identified before being made available to researchers. You may revoke consent and request deletion of your data at any time, subject to applicable legal and contractual obligations.

4. Intellectual Property

All content, trademarks, logos, and software associated with Cicada Ethos are the property of Cicada Ethos or its licensors. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the platform for its intended purpose. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or reverse-engineer any part of the platform without prior written consent.

5. Third-Party Services

Cicada Ethos may integrate with third-party services including Apple HealthKit, payment processors, and analytics providers. Your use of these services is subject to their respective terms and privacy policies. Cicada Ethos is not responsible for the practices or content of third-party services.

6. Termination

You may terminate your account at any time by contacting us or using the account deletion feature within the app. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, engage in fraudulent activity, or misuse the platform. Upon termination, your right to use the platform ceases immediately. De-identified data that has already been shared with researchers may be retained in accordance with research protocols and applicable regulations.

7. Limitation of Liability

Cicada Ethos is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Cicada Ethos shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the platform, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, or interruption of service. Our total liability for any claim shall not exceed the amount you have paid to Cicada Ethos in the twelve months preceding the claim.

8. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you via email or in-app notification. Your continued use of the platform after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
